Wow! What a busy social time CADS have had in the last four months. July saw our members coming together for two different social events. First on the calendar was our yearly picnic, hosted once again by our president. After sharing our food and drink, and catching up on the latest news it was time for the games to begin. Both games and prizes were based on a real historical event - the celebration of Queen Charlotte’s birthday on Saturday 19th May 1810. As you might have guessed, the games were played a bit differently back then and the prizes were very different too - a smock frock - a Crown - a plum cake etc.
On the 12th July our Treasurer was totally surprised when he turned up at the local hall to find it full of friends and CADS members, who had come together to celebrate his seventieth birthday. The evening was comprised of quizzes, games and dancing and a great time was had by all, with members coming from as far as Kent and Dorset.
August saw the wedding of Abi Lewis who has been with CADS since it began in 1991. Abi and Alex were married in our local church, St. Peter's which was also where our drama group was originally conceived. Congratulations to them both.
On the 12th of September we marked the 20th anniversary of CADS with a celebratory dinner at the Carpenters Arms. After a few drinks and some delicious French Cuisine Sally Harper proposed the health of the Society and our Chairman replied. Sally, with her husband Peter are the founders of our society and came all the way from Somerset to be with us for our celebration. They brought with them an album (which Sally is building up), showing CADS in its formative years. As they say in France; 'À la prochaine!' Here's to the next time, but do we have to wait another twenty years? No! There is always our pub night on the first Friday every month at the Fifield Inn. We meet up at 7.30pm for a meal or come along a little later for a convivial drink.
